Post Commander:
Greetings, Comrades! I really hope this Newsletter finds everyone in good health and spirits. Last month I had the privilege of laying the Wreath for Purple Heart recipient and USS Cole (DDG 67) crew member Lakeba Palmer at Mount Hope Cemetery. Our Post had the honor to welcome WWII and Vietnam Veterans who were onboard the Honor Flight at San Diego International Airport. I would like to thank the volunteers of the Post and Auxiliary for the successful Halloween party and our inaugural Trunk or Treat for the Kids in our community. Our collaborative efforts with the Auxiliary have been very successful and we will continue our participation in the Parking Lot Sale and other future events. Parking Lot Sales are the perfect opportunity for engagement to leverage our presence within the community. I had the pleasure of interacting with Veterans and was able to gain a new member and pass out Membership Applications to potential new Post members.
November 11, 2023, Veterans Day, Post 2082 will host a BBQ from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The BBQ is free to all Post 2082 and Post 2082 Auxiliary veterans. For all others the cost is $6.
With the Holiday season quickly approaching let’s continue working together and make it an enjoyable season.
We continue to thank Paul, Morgan, Mike, Theresa Grant, Linda, and Denise and all the other volunteers behind the scene who provide Breakfast and Dinners to the Post.
This is your Post. Please support our activities, events and enjoy the comradery.
Sr Vice Commander:
I would like to thank all of you for assisting us in referring Michael A. Monsoor Post 2082 to new potential members and encouraging others to renew their membership. Our Post has been working hard to gather new folks, while making phone calls to encourage existing members to renew their membership. With the holidays right around the corner everyone is encouraged to take a moment for yourselves. Holidays can be very stressful, and it is our hope not to be too overwhelming. If you feel stressed, please reach out to someone in the Post, a friend, or a family member for support for a compassionate ear. We are planning on hosting a Buddy Poppy and Membership drive at the local Home Depot on Broadway and Sprouts on Lemon Grove Ave, Saturday, November 18th, 0900-1200 – please email me at Vfw2082@gmail.com and include Buddy Poppy in the subject line for volunteer to support. Also, if you have any recommendations for growing membership or have folks you wish to refer us to contact, please email me at Vfw2082@gmail.com and include Membership in the subject line. I look forward to seeing many of you around the post this holiday season. Cheers, Todd
President VFW Riders:
We appreciate all post members and the community for attending the Steak Night event. Feedback from our participants was very positive and we awarded some great raffles and prizes. Our November event will be a Pizza Party on Tuesday, November 21st from 6-8pm. Meals will be $10 BUT if you bring in an unwrapped and unused child’s toy donation for our Toys-for-Tots Drive, your meal will be FREE. Our ride in October was to the American Legion Post 800, in Idyllwild, CA. They hosted our group for lunch and some football. It was a 270 mile trip, resulting in an opportunity to spend time with a great group of Veterans. Our next Ride is on Dec 10th for an overnight stay in Laughlin, NV as we support the “Run for the Cross”, in the Mojave Desert, in support of a Veterans Day ceremony and the quarterly, CA VFW Rider’s Presidents meeting. The other half of our Post 2082, VFW Rider’s crew will be participating in the Escondido, Vet Fest parade. So, if you are interested in learning more, please email us at Vfw2082@gmail.com for more information and include Riders in the subject line. We hope to see you around the community and at the Post. Cheers, Viper
Jr Vice Commander:
I would like to thank everyone for their help in making our Halloween Party and Trunk or Treat a huge success. I’m always open to process improvement so feel free to provide any suggestions or talk to me in person with regards to any past/future events or any ideas you may have. Thanks for all the personal contributions and to those who took the time to solicit local businesses for donations. Donations of any kind are always greatly appreciated.
Chaplain:
Thanks to those who manned booths, collected tickets and participated in the Monterey Elementary School Harvest Festival. It was awesome being able to positively interact with the student body. The Principal and PTA President wanted to pass on a heartfelt thanks and they look forward for more opportunities to work together.
Food Drive will continue through the holidays. Thanks for your support as we have already filled one barrel with food donations for the Fall Food Drive.
October/November Birthday Party will be held Thursday November 30th. Meal to be determined.
Auxiliary President
Greetings to my Auxiliary members. Well, the holidays are here and I can’t believe it. Let’s remember during these times to support our troops overseas for protecting our country’s freedom. Let’s also not forget our active duty families, kids, and spouses that have to hold down the home front. This Veterans Day coming up let’s not forget to thank our veterans for their service. We had an outstanding first annual Trunk or Treat. I want to thank Monica, Quinten, Kevin, Antoinette, Rosie, Letty, and all the other volunteers that helped put this event on. It was a huge success with lots of kids and lots of fun and I’m sure we will do it again next year. I want to thank Lupe Duggins from district one for her enchilada dinner. It was a huge success. Thank you Lupe for doing what you do for our Post. We had a huge turnout for our traditional Halloween party. It’s always so much fun. It gets bigger and better every year and I want to thank all the people that brought a potluck dish for the event. I want to thank all the volunteers who put this function on. I also want to give a big shout out to our member Cesar Jimenez for volunteering and doing yard work for our lawn area. He puts a lot of effort during the hot days to maintain this area and we appreciate you Cesar so much. Thank you for doing this.
Linda Ledesma will be cooking her breakfast pies this Sunday morning, November 4 if you reserved your pie, please pick it up on Saturday. If not join us for breakfast at 9 AM on Sunday morning.
I hope everybody has a wonderful Thanksgiving this November. I hope everybody gets to spend time with their family and friends.
Thank you
Denise Swerdloff Auxiliary President.
